The Speaker

A native of Taiwan, Republic of China, Hung-Kuan Chen went to Germany as a young teenager, where he attended German state music schools. Later he continued his musical training at Boston University and New England Conservatory where he received his Artist's Diploma.

Mr. Chen received high honors at many international competitions, including first prizes of the Geza Anda 1982, the Feruccio Busoni 1982, and Arthur Rubenstein 1983. He was also awarded highly at the Van Cliburn and the Chopin International competitions. He received the Avery Fisher Career Grant in 1991. Mr. Chen was a member of the piano faculty at Boston University since 1985, and now at Calgary Conservatory, Canada.
