The Artists:

Chia-Wei Chang, flute
Miss Chang is a Junior at Taipei National University of Arts.
She was awarded top 1st and 2nd prices in Taiwan Flute solo competitions for years of 1998, 2000, 2002, and 2003.

Steven Yi-Yang Chen, piano
Mr. Chen, 15, from Taiwan, is a 9th grader from the Affiliated High School of National Taiwan Normal University. He was the 2nd place winner of the 2003 Taiwan National Yamaha Piano Competition and the 2nd prize winner of the Taipei City piano competition.

Yue Chu, piano
Mr. Chu is a sophomore at New England Conservatory under Mr. Russell Sherman. He studied with Mr. Hung-Kuan Chen in Canada and with other famous pianists in China. He was the winner of the 2004 Rose Bowl Competition, the 2004 Prince Edward Island Music Festival piano solo competition in Canada and the recipient of the 2004 New England Conservatory’s Presidential Prize.

Miss Hsiao was the recipient of the 2nd place of the 2003 Taiwan middle school music competition.

Jean Chu-Chun Huang, violin
Miss Huang, 15, is the concert master of the 2005 Kaohsiung City Youth Orchestra and the first prize winner of the 2003 KaoHsiung City competition in Taiwan.

Wei-Chin Huang, piano
Miss Huang is a senior at Hsin Chu Teachers College in Taiwan.

Ching-Ya Ku, violin
Miss Ku from Taiwan was awarded top prizes from Taipei and Taoyuan city violin competitions. She was the first violin of a string quartet that won three first prizes in three years in Taipei, Taiwan.

Grace Hua-Chuan Kung, piano
Miss Kung is a sophomore at Taiwan Fu-Jen Catholic University majoring in piano.

Greta Guan-Ting Liao, violin
Miss Liao is a Junior at National Taipei Teachers College in Taiwan.

Jenny Chen-Yen Liao, piano and violin
Miss Liao, 12, was the first prize winner of the 2005 “citta de Barletta” International Piano Competition in Category B. She received “Superior” prize in 2004 Taiwan Yamaha Piano competition, and “Grade A+” in 2003 Taiwan Hsinchu city violin competition Category A.

Julianna Peiling Lin, viola from Taiwan was the first prize winner of both the 1995 and 1996 Taipei viola competitions. She was also the third prize winner of the 1997 Vienna Piano Competition in Taiwan. An alumni of the Foundation for Chinese Performing Arts’ 9th Annual Music Festival, she was selected as the soloist that year performing the Beethoven 5th piano concerto with the Longwood Symphony Orchestra under Mr. Francisco Noya. After the summer music festival, she continued her studies at Walnut Hill School and became the principal violist of the New England Conservatory’s Youth Philharmonic Orchestra under Mr. Benjamin Zander. As a member of Walnut Hill School’s chamber music group, she performed at the Purcell High School and the Royal Academy in England. She was also chosen to play for Mr. Yo Yo Ma at his master class at Walnut Hill School. Miss Lin is a rising senior at Juilliard School of Music study with renowned violist Ms. Hsin-Yun Huang.

Jannie Lo, piano
Miss Lo began to learn the piano at the age of three. A sophomore at Peabody Conservatory of John Hopkins University, she currently studies with Boris Slutsky. Her past principal teachers include Rui-Xing Li and Mack McCray. She has received first prizes from the Ross McKee Piano Foundation, the Pacific Musical Society, the San Francisco Young Pianists Competition, the Stravinsky Awards International Piano Competition. From 2001-2003, she was keyboardist of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra. She appeared in San Francisco Noontime Concerts since the age of ten, and performed with the Fremont Symphony Orchestra, and at the Junior Bach Festival. In New York City, she appeared in a “Young Virtuosos” Gala Concert in Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall. In 2004, she was selected and attended the TCU/Cliburn Piano Institute in Forth Worth, TX. She has been coached by Leon Fleisher, Vladimir Feltsman, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Jerome Lowenthal, and the Peabody Trio.

Mr. Jimmy Chi-Wei Lo, 12, from Taiwan was the 2nd prize winner of both the 2002 Taiwan National Yamaha Piano Competition and the Kaohsiung City Piano competition. He was also the first prize winner of the 2002 Formosa viola competition.

Mr. David Ta-Wei Tsai from Taiwan is a rising junior at Walnut Hill School majoring in piano under Ms. Sylvia Chambless. He was the 2nd prize winner of the 2005 Steinway Society of Massachusetts Piano Competition, and the first prize winner of the 2000 Taiwan National Yamaha Piano Competition.

YoYo Cheng-Yu Wu, cello
Mr. Wu is a freshman at Fu-Jen Catholic University in Taiwan. He was the 1st prize winner of the 2000 Yi-Nan cello competition, high school division.

Bowen Xu, piano
Mr. Xu is a senior at Cardozo High School of New York City.
